We recently learned that April 17th is International Bat Appreciation Day?! At first, we couldn't imagine a reason for appreciating bats...especially for an entire day.  Then, we learned that bats eat mosquitoes...LOTS of them.  We can certainly appreciate that!  Click HERE to learn even more cool "Bat Facts."

You can sign documents on your iPhone!  It's the year 2024 and we still find ourselves printing, hand-signing, scanning and emailing documents - so much stress, so much extra effort that's (thankfully) now totally unnecessary. April 15th is known to most of us Americans as "Tax Day."  There's nothing fun about that fact, so we'll focus our attention on some of the other wild things that have taken place throughout history, on April 15th...like the sinking of the Titanic in 1912...or the founding of General Electric by Thomas Edison in 1892...or the birth of Leonardo da Vinci in 1452!  Learn more about some of the interesting things that have happened on April 15th HERE.

Did You Know?

Local nursery and (magical) garden center, Enchanted Gardens donates 100% of all milkweed sales to local charities and nonprofits?!  Enchanted is one of those places that helps make our community such a special place to live.  Owner, Joey Lenderman, was a guest on the Born in the Bend podcast a while back.  You can listed to him tell the Enchanted Gardens story HERE.

We have an award-winning distillery in downtown Rosenberg and it's called Code 1028.  One of their exclusive, limited-run bottles of whiskey was auctioned at the Night in the Garden fundraiser event this past weekend and it fetched a $1,000 bid - setting a new record for the Code 1028 team!  Congrats (and thanks) to everyone who played a part in supporting the Fort Bend History Association on Saturday night.  Learn more about Code 1028 and the cool things they're doing in our community HERE.

Did You Know?

The Brazos River is a pretty volatile river with some significant erosion challenges, but you already knew that!  For years now, our county leaders have been working diligently to create (and fund) a plan to mitigate further damage at the most at-risk parts of the river.  Last week, it was announced that $26 million in funding has been secured to continue this crucial work.  Learn more about what this means for our community HERE.

Take a short drive down FM 2759 towards Booth and turn left onto Agnes Rd. Where Agnes Road dead ends, you'll find an unsuspecting restaurant & meat market called The Flying Cow. This place is owned by a family who also raise Tajima Wagyu cattle on the surrounding land.  Turns out this family has continued the legacy of Musashi “Mike” Oda, who had a dream to bring traditional Japanese Wagyu to the United States. History was made on March 14, 2024 at Starbase in Boca Chica, TX. The largest and most powerful launch vehicle ever made by humans - named Starship - successfully made it into orbit during a test flight last week. This is a new achievement in all of human history and it is so cool to see it happening in our great state. 5 local governments - Austin County & the cities of Eagle Lake, Fulshear, Wallis, and Weston Lakes - have joined together to build a 31-mile shared-use trail along a former railroad line. They envision a shared-use trail that is safe and accessible for cyclists and pedestrians of all ages. The trail would run alongside FM 1093 from Fulshear to Eagle Lake, connecting several Texas towns along the way. Learn more about this exciting project HERE.

March 6th is the birthday of Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, the genius artist commonly referred to as simply...Michelangelo.  No kids - not the Ninja Turtle!  He was born 460 years ago and his works continue to captivate us.  From his sculpture "David" to his incredible fresco in the Sistine Chapel, he left a legacy that lives on over 4 centuries after his death.  Learn more about his Sistine Chapel work HERE
